Sigh. Thailand. The country of smiles and the first and all-time favorite love when it comes to travel.
The first stop is – of course – Bangkok, the capital of this beautiful country. To sum it up: it’s a vivid hustle and bustle of almost everything.
Starting with an eight-floor shopping center (MBK) you’ll spend at least a half day to battle your way through literally millions of phones, tablets (watch out, some might be stolen and still have the owner’s pictures on it!), phone cases, fake handbags but also good bargains if you’re looking for a nice souvenir. When you’re saying “Lod dai na ka” in a really nicely way they will smile and give you a better price because this is what it means: “Discount please”.
If you’re brave enough you should definitely try the street food around the Skytrain stations Siam and Ekkamai. It is so good that we decided to make an extra post about it! Dim Sum, Pad Thai, chicken on a stick, everything that is cooked is good to eat. No salads though, as they are washed with the local water unlike in hotels.
Another benefit, next to the amazing experience and your baveness: it’s super cheap and the quality is unbeaten.
Then of course, they are THE BEACHES! Gosh, how beautiful they are. With more than 84 islands in total, Thailand offers a beach for every taste. We recommend going to Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, Krabi, Koh Lipe as these islands are comparatively quiet with more decent tourists. Beast season for a good deal: end of February to mid March, then it’s low season and some of the 4 Star Hotels start at 10 Dollars a night! Breakfast included.
If you’re up to some action though, go to Koh Phangan, the legend of Islands and mother of full-moon parties. Action can also be found in BKK itself: Pat Pong (a really crazy but lively place with the legendary ping pong shows and counterfeit products) and the Khao San Road where backpackers from around the world meet and party. Oh, and ladyboys as well.
When it comes to hotels we recommend the Banyan Tree Hotel with a stunning view all over Bangkok, the St. Regis with very inviting interior and the Peninsula, with one of the most beautiful pools.
Enjoy your lavish leisure in Thailand!
